Laser Hair Removal vs. Waxing
Laser Hair Removal
Uses light energy to target the pigment in the hair follicles and destroy them
Leads to permanent hair reduction
After initial sessions, typically only requires annual maintenance
Generally well-tolerated, with mild discomfort often described as a rubber band snapping against the skin
Suitable for skin types 1-5
Initially has a higher cost, but is more cost-effective in the long term
Minimal waste produced. No ultrasound gel needed due to SharpLight’s -8 degree cooling tip
Will not damage the skin but can cause temporary irritation
You will need to shave the day of your appointment
Results take time (6-8 treatments typically)
Waxing
Removes hair by pulling from the roots with wax
Hair free between 2 and 6 weeks
Will always require maintenance every 4-6 weeks
Can be painful, especially in sensitive areas or during initial sessions. Particularly for those with sensitive skin
Suitable for all skin types (1-6)
Has a lower cost per session, but will always need to be done regularly
Requires a lot of disposables such as the wax itself, wax strips, wooden spatulas and wax tubs.
May cause damage to the skin or lead to ingrown hairs
You will need to grow your hair out to be long enough for the wax to grab
Results are immediate
Laser Hair Removal FAQs
-
Dynamic Pulse Control™ (DPC) technology is a powerful light-based technology that effectively targets the hair follicle without harming any other parts of the skin. During the treatment, the heat energy denatures the melanin in the hair follicle, as a result that follicle cannot grow new hair.
-
Immediately, two weeks following the first treatment you will begin to see results and significantly less hair will grow back, additionally with each treatment the amount of hair regrowth will decrease.
-
The typical regimen is 6-10 treatment sessions, spaced 4-12 weeks apart. Treatment time depends on the area treated. The average treatment takes about half an hour.
-
About 20-25% of human hair follicles on the body are in the active growth phase at any given time. This is the percentage of hair follicles that can be destroyed in a single treatment session. ln order to eliminate almost 70% of the hair, treatments should be repeated until the desired result is achieved.

Here is a step-by-step process of how laser hair removal works:
Step 1: Consultation
Before beginning the laser hair removal process, you will have a consultation with one of our certified laser technicians. During this consultation, we will assess your skin and hair type to determine the most effective laser settings for your unique needs.
Step 2: Preparation
On the day of your treatment, we will ask you to shave the area to be treated to ensure that the laser energy can penetrate the hair follicle effectively. Don’t worry, if you miss a spot, we have disposable razors handy as well. Prior to the laser application, you will be provided with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser light.
Step 3: Treatment
Your technician will use a handheld laser device to target the hair follicles. The laser emits a highly concentrated beam of light, which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle. This heat destroys the follicle and prevents future hair growth.
Step 4: Aftercare
After the laser hair removal treatment, we will apply a cooling gel to soothe the skin and reduce redness or irritation, and SPF where necessary. You should avoid sun exposure and strenuous activities for a few days following the treatment.
Step 5: Follow-up sessions
Laser hair removal is most effective when performed in a series of sessions, usually spaced a few weeks apart. This allows the hair follicles to enter the growth phase when they are most susceptible to the laser energy. Your laser technician will help determine the timeline that is best suited for you.
By following this step-by-step process, Nüd Sugaring + Laser Studio in Leduc can provide safe and effective laser hair removal services.

Temporary side effects may include redness, swelling, or mild discomfort immediately after the procedure. These usually subside within a day or two. Adhering to aftercare guidelines can minimize potential side effects.

Yes, you must be 18 years of age or older. Because hormones fluctuate so rapidly, laser hair treatment may yield only temporary results during the early teenage years.

Yes! We can treat over dermal fillers. Fillers are injected into the sub-dermis or muscle, and laser light therapy does not reach that deep. The fillers are not affected. However, a 2 week waiting period after fillers are injected is important as the site of the injection would need to heal.

Our laser hair removal treatments can be performed on skin types 1-5. We cannot treat a skin type 6 because light-based therapy treatments are based on selective photothermolysis. In this case, the light is always attracted to the melanin pigment in the hair follicle, and with our skin type 6 clients, the light would essentially be attracted to both their hair follicles, and their skin. Most of the time, this would result in a burn, and therefore we avoid treating skin type 6’s for their safety.

Laser hair removal is considered a long-term solution that can lead to a significant reduction in hair growth. We are able to permanently treat “Active Follicles” and not “Dormant Follicles”, which may become active throughout life due to hormones, medications, stress, weather changes, medical conditions, etc. Maintenance sessions may be needed over time to address any regrowth, but the frequency often decreases significantly compared to the initial treatment phase.
